Manuscript Types & Article Categories
Manuscript Types & Article Categories
Clear submission classifications for original scholarly contributions in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, and related computational disciplines.
Purpose and Applicability
This policy identifies the scholarly manuscript categories relevant to ARCITECH: Journal of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and describes how manuscripts are classified, screened and processed through the journal's editorial workflow.
The subject matter of a manuscript must fall within the journal's Focus and Scope. Classification as a particular manuscript type does not guarantee external review or acceptance. Manuscripts must meet the Author Guidelines and the journal's research integrity standards.
Original Research Article
Original Research Article is ARCITECH's principal scholarly contribution type within its publicly evidenced Articles section. An original research article reports a clearly defined research problem, a substantive contribution, a sound methodology, and findings supported by verifiable evidence.
- Present a well-defined problem, research objective or research question, with relevant scholarly context and a clear contribution.
- Describe original empirical, computational, analytical, design-science or experimental work, including any justified technical or conceptual innovation.
- Report methods, materials, data, evaluation protocols and results sufficiently for rigorous expert assessment.
- Distinguish findings and contributions from earlier journal articles, conference papers, preprints or thesis material.
Research Approaches Within Original Articles
Within the original research category, relevant research approaches may include the following, provided the manuscript meets ARCITECH's focus, methodological and novelty criteria:
- Computational and algorithmic research, including machine learning, deep learning and statistical modeling.
- Artificial intelligence, NLP, computer vision, speech processing and intelligent systems.
- Software engineering, requirements, testing, architecture and evidence-based system development.
- Human–computer interaction, usability, user experience and empirically evaluated interfaces.
- Computer networks, cybersecurity, digital forensics and privacy-preserving technologies.
- Information systems, data mining, databases and data-intensive computing.
- Applied computing, Internet of Things, simulation and performance evaluation.
- Design-science research, rigorous system case studies and comparative technical investigations.
Method labels or technologies alone do not establish manuscript eligibility. Contributions must be placed in context and critically evaluated.
Review Articles and Other Proposed Scholarly Formats
ARCITECH's Peer Review Policy describes the review of scholarly review articles where such submissions are identified for peer review. However, the public issue archive presently identifies the general OJS section as Articles; it does not, by itself, establish a continuously open separate Review Article submission track.
Prospective authors wishing to submit a Review Article must contact the editorial office before submission to confirm whether that manuscript type is currently being accepted and which editorial requirements apply.
- A proposed Review Article should offer transparent literature identification, rigorous analysis or synthesis, and a meaningful contribution beyond an unstructured summary.
- Narrative or opinion-based surveys without adequate scholarly synthesis may be declined as unsuitable.
- Editorial correspondence, commentaries, letters, corrections and special materials are governed by their applicable editorial arrangements rather than automatically being accepted as regular research submissions.
Novelty, Research Gap and Scientific Merit
Manuscripts must make a traceable contribution appropriate to Computer Science or Artificial Intelligence. Originality is assessed in relation to relevant literature and the evidence provided, not merely the use of a particular software package, algorithm or dataset.
- Identify what is not adequately addressed by existing work.
- State what is proposed, tested, compared or explained.
- Use relevant baselines and evaluation criteria instead of relying on isolated performance claims.
- Report limitations, error sources and threats to validity.
- Avoid exaggerated novelty, unsupported superiority claims, citation manipulation or redundant publication.
Research Design, Data, Code and Reproducibility
Empirical and computational studies should report their design and procedures with sufficient specificity for critical appraisal and, where reasonably feasible, independent verification.
- Document datasets, data provenance, sample selection, preprocessing and data partitioning, where applicable.
- Identify software, libraries, models, relevant versions, hyperparameters, hardware and experimental conditions when material.
- Describe evaluation metrics, comparison methods, tests of robustness and uncertainty or variability, where applicable.
- Include an accurate Data Availability Statement and state legitimate limitations on sharing restricted or sensitive data.
- Explain how scripts, models or research artifacts may be accessed when release is lawful and appropriate.
See the Research Data Availability & Reproducibility Policy for detailed requirements.
Structure, Templates and References
Authors must use ARCITECH's current official manuscript template and follow the section headings, formatting and reference instructions that apply to their submission. The Author Guidelines are authoritative for file preparation.
- Provide a clear title, structured scholarly argument, informative abstract and suitable keywords.
- Present the introduction, methods, results, discussion and conclusions in a sequence appropriate to the research.
- Ensure that tables, figures, equations, dataset descriptions and supplementary material are legible, accurate and cited.
- Prepare references in the journal’s stated APA style and verify DOI and URL accuracy.
- Follow any specific formatting rules provided by the editorial office for an approved alternative manuscript type.
Authorship, Ethics, AI Use and Originality
All submissions must satisfy the journal's authorship, conflicts-of-interest, originality, research-data and generative-AI policies.
- Declare author contributions, funding and competing interests according to the current Author Guidelines.
- Disclose material use of generative AI in manuscript preparation or scientific work; authors remain responsible for every claim and citation.
- Secure research permissions, privacy safeguards and appropriate consent or ethical review where required.
- Disclose relevant preprints, conference versions, overlapping manuscripts or reused content at submission.
- Do not submit fabricated, falsified, plagiarized, unlawfully obtained or misleading research material.
Submission, Desk Screening and Peer Review
Eligible manuscripts are submitted through the ARCITECH OJS system. The editorial team first checks scope, manuscript type, completeness, originality, ethics and minimum scientific quality.
Original research manuscripts selected for external review undergo the journal's double-blind peer-review procedure with at least two independent qualified reviewers. A recommendation by reviewers does not constitute acceptance; final decisions rest with the authorized, conflict-free editor.
Editors may request clarification, amendments or reclassification where the declared type does not match the substance of the submission. Full procedures appear in the Peer Review Policy & Editorial Decision.
Relationship to Journal Sections
The manuscript type describes the scholarly nature of a submission, whereas an OJS section is an operational category used to route and display submissions. They are related but are not necessarily identical.
- The publicly visible ARCITECH issue archive currently lists manuscripts under the section Articles.
- Authors must choose the appropriate section made available by OJS at the time of submission and follow any displayed Section Policy.
- New submission types or dedicated OJS sections shall be introduced only following editorial approval and an update to the journal’s publicly available guidance.
- Special editorial materials should be clearly identified, including whether independent peer review applies.
Nonstandard Submissions and Editorial Discretion
A manuscript that does not meet the scientific expectations of an Original Research Article is not automatically eligible for publication under another label. An author should not relabel a descriptive report, a commercial case, a tutorial, an opinion essay or an unvalidated software demonstration as original research merely to obtain editorial consideration.
The journal may decline material that falls outside its declared scope or current submission categories. Any future addition of a regular manuscript type should be documented in this policy and, where necessary, in the OJS Section Policy and manuscript template before routine submissions are invited.
