Copyright & Licensing Policy
Copyright & Licensing Policy
Author-owned scholarship. Transparent first-publication rights. Clear noncommercial reuse under a recognized Creative Commons license.
Purpose and Applicability
ARCITECH: Journal of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence is committed to open scholarly communication, clear authorship rights, and transparent licensing. This policy describes ownership, the right of first publication, rights of readers and authors, and reuse of published articles, including associated figures and supplementary content.
The terms of this policy apply to scholarly articles published by ARCITECH. They must be read together with the copyright notice for the individual article, the applicable Creative Commons license, and any separately identified rights in third-party or supplementary materials.
Authors Retain Copyright
Copyright remains with the author(s), or other lawful copyright holders where applicable (for example, an employer under applicable law or an employment agreement). Publication in ARCITECH does not, by itself, transfer copyright ownership to the journal or its publisher.
Authors must have the authority to submit and license their work, secure agreement from all relevant rights holders, and disclose any employment, funding, institutional or third-party rights that affect publication. ARCITECH does not require an assignment of copyright or exclusive commercial rights as a condition of publication.
Non-exclusive First-Publication Rights
By publishing in ARCITECH, the author(s) grant the journal a non-exclusive right to publish the accepted work for the first time, identify ARCITECH as the original publication venue, produce and distribute the version of record, and disseminate the publication and its bibliographic metadata.
These publishing permissions coexist with the authors’ retained copyright. They do not prevent authors from using their own work or entering into additional lawful non-exclusive arrangements, provided that the original publication is appropriately acknowledged and third-party rights are respected.
Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
Unless an individual article expressly and lawfully states otherwise, ARCITECH publishes its articles under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0). The license is public, worldwide and royalty-free under its terms.
The license permits sharing and adaptation for noncommercial purposes, provided attribution is given and adaptations that are shared follow the ShareAlike conditions. The official legal code governs the licensed permissions; this webpage explains, but does not modify, those terms.
What Readers and Researchers May Do
Subject to the license conditions and any third-party exclusions, readers and researchers may:
- Read, download, print, copy and redistribute published articles without a subscription or access fee.
- Share articles and links through websites, scholarly repositories, course resources, and noncommercial channels.
- Adapt, translate, transform or build upon licensed article content for noncommercial purposes, subject to the ShareAlike requirement.
- Quote, cite and analyze research as permitted by copyright law, the applicable license and scholarly attribution standards.
Activities permitted by statutory copyright exceptions and limitations remain governed by those laws; this policy does not remove such rights.
Credit and License Conditions
When sharing licensed ARCITECH material, users must give appropriate credit to the author(s), identify the source, provide a link to the applicable license, and indicate whether changes were made. Attribution must not suggest that the author(s) or ARCITECH endorse the reuse.
A recommended citation includes the author(s), article title, ARCITECH: Journal of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, publication year, volume/issue, DOI or article URL, and the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license.
Adaptations and Commercial Permissions
The NonCommercial (NC) condition means that the licensed material may not be used primarily for commercial advantage or monetary compensation under the Creative Commons grant. Users seeking rights beyond those granted by the license should obtain permission from the relevant rights holder(s), unless their use is independently lawful.
Under ShareAlike (SA), users who publicly share adapted material must apply the same CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license or a license permitted as compatible by its legal code to their contributions. Merely aggregating an unmodified article with other materials does not necessarily create an adaptation.
The journal does not impose additional legal or technological restrictions on uses authorized by the Creative Commons license. As copyright holders, authors may separately authorize uses of their own works, including commercial uses, where they possess the necessary rights.
Reuse, Teaching, and Subsequent Publication
Authors retain the ability to reuse and share their own articles in teaching, academic presentations, scholarly communication, repositories, research profiles and future works, subject to applicable third-party rights and contractual obligations outside this policy.
Authors may include their articles or portions of them in a thesis, dissertation, scholarly collection, or later book and may make additional non-exclusive distribution arrangements. When applicable, the original ARCITECH publication, DOI and journal license should be clearly acknowledged.
An existing Creative Commons license granted to the public for a published version is not retroactively withdrawn merely because an author subsequently publishes the work elsewhere.
Preprints, Accepted Manuscripts, and Version of Record
Consistent with the journal’s Repository Policy, ARCITECH permits authors to deposit and share the preprint, accepted manuscript, and published version of record in institutional or subject repositories and appropriate scholarly webpages, without a journal-imposed embargo.
- Preprint: identify the version as not yet peer-reviewed and avoid misleading claims of editorial acceptance.
- Accepted manuscript: identify the version and link to the published article when available.
- Version of record: include the bibliographic citation, DOI or article URL and the applicable CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 notice.
The CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 notice for the published article should not be assumed to grant rights in unrelated preprints, datasets, software or third-party materials unless those resources separately carry that license.
Figures, Images, Tables, and Permissions
Authors must identify and properly credit material created by third parties, including photographs, diagrams, maps, screenshots, charts, questionnaires, copyrighted datasets and substantial excerpts. They are responsible for securing permission when required, or documenting a lawful exception or compatible open license.
Third-party content that is excluded from the article’s CC license must be clearly identified in its figure caption, credit line or other appropriate notice, together with any reuse restrictions. Publication of a work under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 does not automatically relicense third-party content.
Authors must not use material that violates confidentiality, privacy, consent, contractual restrictions or applicable intellectual-property rights.
Data, Source Code, Software, and AI Assets
Datasets, source code, trained models, model weights, software packages, and other research assets may have rights and licenses that differ from the published article. The article’s CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license does not automatically override those distinct licenses.
Authors should provide accessible provenance, dataset/software citations, relevant license information, availability statements, and reproducibility details when these resources underpin findings. Open-source software licenses and database-specific terms should be selected and reported appropriately; code should not be automatically labeled CC BY-NC-SA solely because it accompanies an article.
When generative AI has been used in preparing figures, text, data, or code, authors must also follow ARCITECH’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) & Generative AI Policy and ensure that they hold sufficient rights to publish and license the resulting material.
Computational Reuse and Machine Processing
ARCITECH supports legitimate scholarly discovery, indexing, citation analysis, and computational examination of its publications. Reuse of licensed full-text content, including extraction and adaptation for text-and-data mining, remains subject to the applicable license and law.
The NC and SA provisions may affect the permitted scope and redistribution of outputs that incorporate protected expression; researchers should assess their specific use. Citation, metadata use, indexing and legally permitted text-and-data mining are not automatically prohibited by a noncommercial Creative Commons license.
Copyright Statements, PDFs, and Metadata
The journal identifies the author(s) as the copyright holder(s) where appropriate and displays the applicable article license with a direct link to the Creative Commons terms on the article landing page. The same notice should appear in the full-text PDF or HTML whenever operationally possible.
The journal should maintain consistency among its public policy, article-level copyright notices, OJS license settings, and DOI/Crossref licensing metadata. If an article has different lawful terms, those terms must be stated explicitly and accurately in its record.
Corrections, Retractions, and License Continuity
Post-publication corrections, retractions, and expressions of concern are handled under ARCITECH’s publication ethics and post-publication procedures. Where a paper is corrected or retracted, the scholarly record and its notices should remain identifiable and linked.
A correction or retraction does not by itself revoke a valid existing CC license for copies already distributed under its terms. Users remain responsible for following linked notices and not presenting retracted or corrected findings misleadingly.
Policy Changes, Inquiries, and Effective Application
ARCITECH may update this policy to improve clarity or align with new legal and scholarly standards. Substantive changes must be communicated transparently and should apply prospectively, respecting existing agreements and article-specific licenses.
The policy is intended to harmonize existing ARCITECH terms. It becomes authoritative when approved by the journal and publisher and published on the journal website. Rights or licensing disputes will be reviewed with reference to the applicable article record, governing license and supporting documentation.
