Open Access & Repository Policy
Open Access & Repository Policy
Immediate access. Zero embargo. Author-retained copyright. Self-archiving rights for every manuscript version.
Purpose and Application
This policy sets out ARCITECH’s commitments to immediate open access and the rights of authors to self-archive their scholarly works. It should be read together with the journal’s Copyright & Licensing Policy, the individual article license notice, and any separately identified third-party rights.
The policy applies to research articles published in ARCITECH: Journal of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence and guides authors on sharing submitted manuscripts, accepted manuscripts, and published articles. It does not change licenses or contractual terms validly applied to previously published material.
Free Access without Delay
ARCITECH provides immediate open access to its published scholarly articles. Readers may access and download the full text online without subscription, payment, mandatory registration, or embargo.
Readers may read, download, print, link to, cite, search, and share published articles in accordance with applicable law, the indicated article license, and any separately identified third-party rights. Access to scholarly content is not conditional on an Article Processing Charge paid by readers; author publication charges, where applicable, are described separately on the journal’s Article Processing Charges page.
Authors Retain Copyright
Copyright remains with the author(s) or other lawful copyright holder(s). ARCITECH receives non-exclusive rights of first publication and to make the version of record available as described in its Copyright & Licensing Policy.
Authors may lawfully reuse, teach with, distribute, and deposit their own work without transferring exclusive copyright to the journal. Where employer, coauthor, funder, or third-party rights exist, authors are responsible for obtaining the necessary authorization.
Creative Commons CC BY-NC-SA 4.0
Unless an individual published article lawfully states otherwise, ARCITECH articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution–NonCommercial–ShareAlike 4.0 International License (CC BY-NC-SA 4.0): Read the official license.
Under this license, users may share and adapt the licensed work for noncommercial purposes with appropriate attribution; distributed adaptations must meet the ShareAlike condition. The journal imposes no additional terms that override the Creative Commons license. The license does not automatically cover material identified as separately licensed or excluded from the article’s license.
The official Creative Commons legal code governs reuse. This summary does not expand or narrow those permissions.
Versions Authors May Deposit
ARCITECH permits authors to deposit and share all three manuscript versions in an institutional or subject repository of their choosing, as well as on an appropriate personal or institutional scholarly webpage, without a journal-imposed embargo or self-archiving charge.
| Version | When Deposit Is Allowed | Journal Embargo |
|---|---|---|
| Preprint / Submitted Version | Before, during or after submission | None |
| Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM) | Immediately after acceptance | None |
| Published Version / Version of Record (VoR) | Immediately upon publication | None |
These permissions are consistent with the journal’s author-retained copyright approach. They do not remove third-party rights or other lawful obligations.
Submitted Manuscripts and Public Disclosure
A preprint is a manuscript made publicly available before formal peer-review acceptance. Authors may post preprints on appropriate repositories or scholarly servers and are encouraged to identify the file clearly as not yet peer reviewed.
Authors must disclose an existing public preprint and its permanent URL or identifier during submission so that editors can assess originality, transparency, and potential overlap. Posting a preprint does not constitute a journal acceptance or endorsement. Authors must follow the journal’s submission, originality, and double-blind review instructions, including removing identifying information from the file submitted for anonymous review when required.
When the article is eventually published, authors should update the preprint record with a reference and DOI link to the version of record. A preprint’s own license should be checked independently; the final article’s CC license does not automatically relicense older versions.
Author Accepted Manuscript (AAM)
The Author Accepted Manuscript is the version incorporating changes accepted after peer review, before final copyediting, typesetting or journal pagination. Authors may make the AAM openly available immediately upon formal acceptance.
The deposited file should be labeled Accepted Manuscript — not the final published version and include a link to the definitive publication when available. Authors should not suggest that the AAM is identical to the final article if editorial production changes have occurred.
Deposit of the Published Article
Once published, the publisher-formatted article (Version of Record, including the official PDF or HTML where available) may be deposited and shared immediately. Authors should retain the published citation, DOI or official article URL, original journal credit, and the applicable CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license notice.
Repository display and further redistribution must respect the published article’s Creative Commons conditions, as well as any clearly marked exceptions for third-party content. Deposit does not confer rights to remove or replace the journal’s published record.
Repositories and Scholarly Webpages
Authors may use an institutional repository, subject repository, trusted preprint server, university research-information platform, or their own scholarly webpage, provided the hosting terms do not conflict with applicable copyright, license, confidentiality, or third-party obligations.
Where a commercial content-sharing service imposes additional terms, authors should assess those terms before uploading. ARCITECH does not require authors to use a particular repository and does not impose geographic restrictions or deposit fees.
Required Deposit Information
For clarity, discoverability, and responsible reuse, repository records should contain:
- The full article title and author names, as applicable to the deposited version.
- The deposited version label (preprint, AAM or VoR) and its relevant date.
- The journal title, year, volume/issue and full citation when available.
- A DOI link or permanent URL to the published article when available.
- An accurate copyright and license statement, including any exceptions for third-party content.
- A link to the journal’s correction, retraction or expression-of-concern notice if one applies.
A suggested VoR notice is: “Originally published in ARCITECH: Journal of Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence, [year], [citation], DOI: [DOI]. Copyright © [year] [author(s)]. Licensed under CC BY-NC-SA 4.0.”
Data, Software, Code and Model Artifacts
For Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence research, authors are encouraged to make research artifacts findable and reusable where lawful and ethically appropriate. These may include datasets, source code, software, benchmark configurations, trained models, model cards or supplementary materials.
Article licensing and research-artifact licensing are not identical: the CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 license on an article does not automatically cover datasets, source code, software or AI model weights. Each asset should carry an appropriate license or access statement, with attention to privacy, security, consent, institutional agreements, and intellectual-property rights.
Restrictions on sensitive or proprietary research artifacts should be explained in a relevant Data Availability or Code Availability statement rather than misrepresented as freely reusable.
Figures, Permissions and Sensitive Content
Authors must identify content for which they do not control the applicable rights, such as third-party images, figures, maps, datasets, copyrighted screenshots or licensed software components. Such material may not be redistributed under the article license unless the author has the authority to grant those rights.
Repository deposits must respect applicable privacy, confidentiality, consent, ethics approval, cybersecurity, contractual and intellectual-property restrictions. Where relevant, credit lines or captions must state that third-party content is excluded from the article’s Creative Commons license.
Compliance with Open Access Requirements
Authors may satisfy funder and institutional deposit requirements through the versions and timing permitted above, subject to valid rights in their work. Authors should verify whether a particular funder requires a specific license, repository, metadata record, or deposit deadline.
If a funder requirement appears inconsistent with the journal’s current CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 licensing terms, authors should contact the editorial office before entering a conflicting publishing arrangement. ARCITECH does not claim that CC BY-NC-SA 4.0 necessarily meets every funder’s open-access mandate.
Linked Scholarly Record
Authors and repositories are encouraged to preserve links to the authoritative record when a published article is corrected, retracted, or accompanied by an expression of concern. The original published item and notice should remain identifiable.
Repository copies should be updated with a prominent link to the relevant journal notice whenever feasible. ARCITECH handles such actions under its Corrections, Retractions & Expressions of Concern Policy.
Digital Preservation Distinguished from Indexing
ARCITECH maintains its official article records and bibliographic information through its publishing platform. The journal supports preservation through author deposits and appropriate institutional or specialized archiving arrangements.
Repository self-archiving, indexing, system backups and long-term preservation are distinct activities. Inclusion in discovery services, library search portals or DOI registries is not, by itself, proof that full-text preservation has been activated. Any claim that ARCITECH participates in a particular long-term preservation service should be supported by confirmed enrollment and successful content deposits.
The publisher should periodically verify preservation coverage, including any PKP Preservation Network, LOCKSS, CLOCKSS or other eligible service actually used, while maintaining regular independent OJS database and file backups. Specific services should be publicly named only after verification.
Consistency, Updates and Contact
This policy is intended to be read alongside ARCITECH’s About the Journal, Copyright & Licensing Policy, Author Guidelines & Copyright Notice and AI & Generative AI Policy.
If terms appear inconsistent, the journal will review the relevant article-specific license, author agreement and applicable law. Policy revisions should be published transparently and should not purport to withdraw existing valid Creative Commons permissions granted for earlier articles.
Questions about deposit versions, licensing and repository permissions may be directed to the ARCITECH Editorial Office at arcitech.journal@iaincurup.ac.id.
