Focus and Scope

FOCUS

RAFFLESIA: Journal of Ecotheology and Sustainability is a peer-reviewed academic journal dedicated to the interdisciplinary study of ecotheology, religion, and sustainability. The journal provides a scholarly platform for critical inquiry into the relationships between religious beliefs, theological traditions, ethical principles, human societies, and the natural environment. It seeks to advance academic dialogue on how religious perspectives, spiritual traditions, and faith-based practices can contribute to understanding and addressing contemporary ecological challenges.

The journal approaches ecotheology as an interdisciplinary field that brings religious studies into conversation with environmental sciences, philosophy, ethics, law, social sciences, and sustainability studies. It welcomes theoretical, conceptual, empirical, and comparative research that examines religious interpretations of nature, human responsibility toward the environment, ecological justice, and the ethical foundations of sustainable living. Particular attention is given to critical and context-sensitive scholarship that connects religious thought with environmental realities, public concerns, and practical responses to ecological degradation.

While welcoming contributions from diverse religious and intellectual traditions, the journal encourages scholarly engagement with the experiences and perspectives of communities across Indonesia, Southeast Asia, and other regions of the world. Its aim is to foster an inclusive and rigorous academic discourse that bridges religious knowledge, interdisciplinary inquiry, and ecological responsibility.
