Child independence is an essential aspect of their development, especially for children raised by foster parents such as grandmothers. This study aims to analyse the development of independent character in children aged 6–12 years living in Talang Lindung Village, where many children are cared for by their grandmothers due to their mothers working abroad as Female Migrant Workers (TKW). The research employed a qualitative approach with a case study design, involving 14 participants consisting of children, foster parents, and members of the local community. Data were collected through participatory observation and in-depth interviews. The results show that children experience increased independence in daily life, learning processes, and religious activities. Internal factors such as early responsibility and adaptability, as well as external factors like support from foster parents, contribute to their independence development. This study concludes that the role of grandmothers as foster parents is significant in shaping children's independent character, despite emotional challenges. Recommendations include strengthening support programs for foster parents, enhancing school-based initiatives to nurture independence, encouraging the village government to establish community-based child support programs, and involving migrant worker protection agencies to provide guidance and assistance for families of Female Migrant Workers.
