Abstract

Floods in Aceh Tamiang are understood not only as an ecological phenomenon but also through a religious perspective, which affects the community's social response. This study aims to analyze the construction of the meaning of the Qur'an-based disaster in the social practices of people affected by multiethnic floods. Using a descriptive-analytical qualitative approach with a Living Qur'an perspective, data were collected through in-depth interviews, participatory observations, and documentation of 15 informants of different levels of religiosity and two comparative villages. Data analysis uses a hybrid thematic analysis approach with codebooks, as well as triangulation of sources and methods. The results of the study show three patterns of theological interpretation of floods as tests, reprimands, and fates that are present simultaneously, as well as three inductive categories: non-theological factors, socio-religious resilience, and social-spiritual dysfunction. The theory of speech (Austin/Searle) shows religious speech as a performative act that shapes social reality. This research contributes to the development of the study of the Living Qur'an by expanding the context to ecological-disaster crises based on the Dimensions search protocol (2005-2025), as well as recommending strengthening the capacity of religious leaders in psychosocial assistance based on contextual theology and the integration of religious-ecological approaches in disaster mitigation policies
