Understanding Hajj Ritual Guidance Through the YouTube Platform Among Gen Z Pilgrims in 2024: A Study in Tegal City

Purpose − The use of YouTube as a learning platform for Hajj rituals among Generation Z pilgrims in Tegal City represents an innovative approach in the digital era. This study aims to explore how YouTube enhances the understanding, spiritual engagement, and religious behavior of Gen Z pilgrims.
Method − This qualitative research employed a descriptive method through interviews with eight Gen Z pilgrims who had performed the Hajj.
Findings − Reveal that YouTube is an effective self-learning medium, providing clear, communicative, and easily accessible visual content. Cognitively, pilgrims demonstrated better comprehension of the Hajj procedures; affectively, they experienced emotional serenity and spiritual closeness; behaviorally, they actively rewatched videos, practiced rituals at home, and shared content with others. In conclusion, YouTube serves as an important medium for learning and internalizing spiritual values among Gen Z pilgrims, although face-to-face guidance remains essential to deepen spiritual experience and ensure doctrinal accuracy.
